Winter day at end of Atlantic Street, North Plymouth Pilgrim
Description:
'On this still and bitter cold day, I relished the solitude and quiet after a storm. The view of Plymouth Harbor from the end of my street, Atlantic Street, stirs thoughts of the Pilgrims, their determination in struggle and industry. When I looked to the left, I knew that around that water, Howland, Bradford, Standish, and Alden had staked their presence. When I turned to the right, I view the landing site and plantation area. This scene in winter also connects, in my mind, the horrific environment of American young men in battlefields of WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, in the 20th century and the Pilgrims' story of faith and freedom. (See Ronald Reagan website of his library, his farewell address.) The Pilgrim story was part of this education of American youth and it counts for so much of what we enjoy today. Location: End of Atlantic Street.'
