Letter from Catherine Hirsch to Walter Lacqueur, April 7, 1963
Title (alt.):
Catherine M. Sugarman Letters
Walter Laqueur Letters
Description:
Walter Laqueur was a German historian, journalist and political commentator. From 1965-1994, he was the Director of the Institute of Contemporary History and the Wiener Library in London. He was Professor of the History of Ideas at Brandeis University from 1968 to 1972, and at Georgetown University from 1976 to 1988. In this letter from Catherine Sugarman (Kate Hirsch) to Laqueur, she expresses her gratitude to him for discovering information about her brother - Helmut Hirsch, and Grunov in the German Foreign Ministry Files. She notes that if time allows and she is able to travel to Europe, she would like to see Laqueur in person. This letter and others found in the collection dealing with writings about Helmut's life show the careful custodianship Kate had on her brother's legacy.
