Massachusetts State House news release concerning Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, July 19, 1977
Description:
This press release from the Office of Governor Michael Dukais of Massachusetts dated July 19, 1977, declared that the "stigma and disgrace" attached by history to the names of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti shall be removed. Governor Dukais issued the proclamation on the 50th anniversary of Sacco and Vanzetti's death by execution. After signing the proclamation, Governor Dukais presented copies in English and Italian to the Spencer Sacco, grandson of Nicola Sacco, and Franco di Bruno, Italian Consul General to Boston, on behalf of Bartoloemo Vanzetti's sister - Veincenzina Vanzetti. The case of Sacco-Vanzetti emphasized bias and corruption within the Department of Justice as well as the Massachusetts court system.
