Brigadier Bernard Adams, a Salvation Army officer for twenty-six years, is serving his tenth year as bandmaster of The Salvation Army's 36-piece International Staff Band which will be heard in concert here at 8 PM (time) Wednesday, May 1st (date) at Boston Opera House (place). The band, organized in London in 1891, is currently making its first tour of the United States, playing in 22 cities. Under the leadership of Brigadier Adams, the band has achieved some of its greatest triumphs, playing in many of Europe's most renowned cathedrals and concert halls. After conducting the band in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace, Brigadier Adams was presented to Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret. Queen Juliana of the Netherlands personally congratulated Bandmaster Adams after he had conducted a concert, at her invitation, in Soestdijk Palace in 1949. Although best known as a cornet soloist, in the instrumental field, Brigadier Adams is adept with the trombone, bass tuba, flugelhorn, saxaphone, clarinet and piano.
