Description:
Gerrit Smith writes to William Lloyd Garrison announcing that "the Annual Meeting of the American Anti-Slavery Society is at hand" but that he will probably not be able to attend and enclosing $100 as a contribution (not included). Smith then comments on African-American men joining the army, stating he "heard that few if any of them in Boston enlist." He also asks Garrison how the government could "reply to the threat that captured blacks shall be sold or murdered?" Smith states that G.W. Julian has visited him and reports his wife "is again in comfortable health."
