Letter from Harriet Beecher Stowe, Cabin, to William Lloyd Garrison, 1853 Nov[ember] 30
Description:
Harriet Beecher Stowe writes to William Lloyd Garrison thanking him for "the frankness and kindness with which" he responded to her last note. Stowe then explains her last note to the American Anti-Slavery Socety, saying she may have misunderstood Garrison and that "it is difficult in letter writing for people to come to a full appreciation of sentiments on an extensive & somewhat complicated subject". She invites Garrison to the "Cabin" and offers to show him "the many memorials of the kindness of English friends shown to the cause of the slave, thro [sic] me." She also says that at this visit she will share her views and then Garrison "will then think differently" of her last letter. Stowe asks Garrison to bring "the manuscript" of her letter, explaining that she has "not strength to copy them" and she will "carefully reconsider it in the light of your suggestions."
