Letter from Charles Turner, Worcester, [Massachusetts], to Amos Augustus Phelps, 1834 Nov[ember] 8th
Description:
.C.T. Torrey writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding the formation of the new American society and the division of the old one led by William Lloyd Garrison. He suggests the necessity of having their own daily Abolition paper and states that he will do more for the paper as "the winter advances." He discusses other events that have happened such as a debate with "Lincoln in his own town" and the "Bolton matter" in which he writes that he address the Reflector but that they should not "depend upon [Reverend] Grosvenor one moment" due to the publishing committee consisting of "Garrisonites or neuters--and neuters are against us." Lastly, he urges that they should send two delegates from their society to the World's Convention next June.
