In the head- spine corner, "To W.L.G." is written in black ink while in the head- fore corner, "Paris, Aug. 28, 1867." is written in pencil in a different handwriting from the rest of the letter. On verso, in the head- fore corner, "Rev. Jas. A. Thome, Paris, August 18, 1867." is also written in pencil.
