Description:
Henrietta Sargent writes to unknown, possibly William Lloyd Garrison, saying that after hearing about the Emancipation Proclamation, "Mr. Swan of Newport R[hode] I[sland] raised a Flag with the words on it "Proclaim Liberty." She also sends a poem by S.L. Little (not included) for inclusion in the Liberator, encouraging the recipient, "do publish it!"

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white stationery with an engraved portrait of John C. Fremont in the head- spine corner. Next to the portrait, the number "48" is written in pencil, while on verso, along the fore edge, "Miss Henrietta Sargent, May 10, 1863-" is also written in pencil, vertically.
