Letter from Emilie Ashurst Venturi, West Brompton, [London, England], to William Lloyd Garrison, [18]67 August 12
Description:
Emilie Ashurst Venturi writes to William Lloyd Garrison thanking him for his "valuable gift" and calling it "an admirable likeness." Venturi says her father taught her to "venerate your name even before I could fully appreciate your sacrifices and services in the cause of humanity" and likens him to Giuseppe Mazzini as "chosen spirits" who "have increasingly fed the altar-fire of Principle". She then asks Garrison to "complete" the gift "by sending me one word of inscription" to include in the frame with the portrait.
Holograph, signed.
