Letter from George L. Lerow, Waterville College, [Waterville, Maine], to William Lloyd Garrison, 1834 Oct[ober] 27
Description:
George L. LeRow writes this letter to an unknown recipient discussing the recent visit of George Thompson to Maine. LeRow says the visit "has done much good, in this place we number many more as Abolitionists in consequence of his powerful eloquence ..." He also passes on a message that Gerrit Smith is travelling with "Mr. Green" to Smithfield to deliver an address and he believes that Smith "is substantially with us." He adds that "If he [Smith] forsakes the ranks of the Colonizationists, I should not think there would be villany enough left" to sustain them. Before closing the letter, he lists a number of books he will return to the recipient and says that the calculated amount of money "Mr. Bradford will hand you."
