Letter from William Adam, Cambridge, [Massachusetts], to Maria Weston Chapman, 1839 Nov[ember] 5
Description:
William Adam writes to Maria Weston Chapman in regards to returning Mr. George Thompson's letter concerning the effect on American slavery of the extension of cotton cultivation in India and thanking her for it; "it is characteristic of his ardent and enthusiastic mind." He writes that he is sure "it would produce the happiest consequences, in combination with other causes, to the starving & degraded population of India itself." As a member of the British India Society, he is preparing a series of lectures as an advocate "to the full extent of its objects."
