Letter from Charles Calistus Burleigh, Plainfield, [Connecticut], 1851 [April] 23d
Description:
C.C. Burleigh writes to Samuel May discussing upcoming meetings he is to attend. He insists that he told May the correct date for a second meeting in Scituate and then says that he expects to attend the meeting in Pembroke but he will have to then reschedule a lecture in South Danvers. Burleigh asks May "to confer with friend [E.F.] Burnham, & have the S[outh] Danvers appointment recalled, or postponed to the 25th of the month, if he is willing, as I doubt not he will be when told why we wish it." He tells May he "shall be guided by the notice in the Liberator, if the change is made" but asks May to write him a letter with his plans as well.
Holograph, signed.
Title devised by cataloger.
On verso, the letter is addressed to "Samuel May Jr., Anti Slavery Office, 21 Cornhill, Boston, Mass." and it is postmarked with a green, circular stamp reading, "Plainfield Ct. Apr 24."
