Letter from Daniel S. Whitney, Boylston, [Massachusetts], to Samuel May, [18]51 June 22
Description:
Daniel S. Whitney writes to Samuel May saying that he received May's last letter too late to plan for a meeting on June 22. He says that they still would like to have a meeting, "the only thing to settle upon is the time." Whitney tells May that he has "by right of citizenship" the use of the town hall for a meeting, but asks May to "leave the fixing of the time [of a meeting] to us" and "put down in your general plan to come here in Sept[ember]." Whitney also says that he has discussed with other Boylston abolitionists whether to hold the meeting on a Sunday or a weekday, and they have decided that if the Methodist society, which uses the town hall on Sundays, can be made "to join us in holding the convention (which we hope to do) then Sunday would be the most favorable time."
