Dictated draft of Joshua Loth Liebman radio sermon: “America’s Great Moral Opportunity Now”, 1947. Wyner Archives of Temple Israel of Boston.
Description:
This is a draft of a sermon by Rabbi Joshua Loth Liebman, titled "America's Great Moral Opportunity Now." Liebman argues that in order to remain true to its founding democratic values, America must demonstrate moral leadership and allow those victims of World War II still living in displaced persons camps in Europe to immigrate to the United States. Liebman calls on his listeners to immediately write their congressmen urging them to pass H2910 (Emergency Temporary Displaced Persons Admission Act), proposed by Representative William Stratton (R-IL), which would admit 400,000 displaced persons into the country over the next four years. The sermon was intended for radio broadcast on May 18, 1947. This recording was created by Rabbi Joshua Loth Liebman on an Audograph Dictation Machine for later typed transcription. The audio may contain microphone noise, distortions, pauses and instructions.
