1863. Ruins of Phillips House viewed looking southwest. Fredericksburg is visible on the horizon at left across the Rappahannock River. The house served as headquarters for Ambrose Burnside and numerous other officers in 1862-63. The house accidently burned down on February 14, 1863 while in Union hands. Three men standing in yard may be photographer's assistants.
