Caption: U.S.N.O.B., Bermuda - May 8, 1947 - Leathernecks of the NOB rifle team are shown here practice firing for the coming match with the British. The matches are held annually and so far the Gyrenes have taken four out of six. This range about five miles from the base is said to be one of the strangest. It is laid in a valley and to fire from the 500 yard line you have to shoot from on top of a bridge that a road passes over. The Marines fire the British way. Among the differences, instead of a black bulls eye they have a brown one which makes it harder to see. In the 300 yard line rapid fire they run from the 400 yard line to the 300 and get down in position and fire 10 rounds in 90 seconds. On each firing line they have ditches and instead of firing the prone position they fire from the "In the ditch". Hdqtrs. No. 166801.
