Note accompanying item: The study of Chief Justice Lemuel Shaw at 49 Mt. Vernon St. Boston, showing his books, arm chair and the table at which he always wrote. The chair is in the position in which he always used it. On the table his sand box and two brief holders and the ink stand given to Judge Shaw by the lawyers of Boston. Over the bookcase by the closet door is a small bust of the Judge. The chairs came from the house of Dr. Samuel Savage at Barnstable, father of Judge Shaw's second wife. The room is exactly as it was furnished over 100 years ago and it has remained untouched until 1916.
