Description:
Denison replies to May's request that Reverend Dr. Andrew Twombly Foss speak on slavery at Denison's church. Denison refuses May's request and adds that he objects to the vitriolic denunciation of the abolitionists' opponents that has recently characterized the speeches of anti-slavery lecturers.
A copy of the letter that May wrote to Denison is included with Denison's response. The copy is dated February 22, 1853 and signed by May.
