Letter from Luther Lee, Andover, to Amos Augustus Phelps, Dec. 24. [1842?]
Description:
In this letter to Amos A. Phelps, Luther Lee discusses the discontinuation of the Sword of Truth, for which he was the editor. He cites the lack of “sectarian influence to sustain” the paper and the lack of vocal supports of those who approved it as the reason for the paper’s failure. He also says he has withdrawn from the M. E. Church “on account of slavery and episcopacy,” and has commenced “the battle for independent life.” His church as a whole will leave with him.
