Description:: Yard of the marine barracks [Charlestown Navy Yard]. The marine drill ground. The guns at the left, like many of the veterans on the drill ground, had served on the plains of Mexico. "The various arrangements of the yard are characterized by skill & judicious management." There were 3 officers, 19 non-coms, & 75 privates.
