Description:
Monument Square houses from no. 21 to no. 26, at head of Monument Street. The large brick house with white stone trim was built in 1874 by F.L. Gilman, but in 1879 became the home for many years of Dr. Edward J. Forster, surgeon-general of Mass. Just beyond it lived Dr. Luther V. Bell, head of the McLean Asylum and surgeon in the Civil War.
