"Porch & doorway" of Everett mansion, 16 Harvard Street. From 1849 to 63 this house was occupied by William Carleton, who gave $50,000 (and his name) to Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota. He learned the trade of tin man, & later rose to be head of one of the largest lamp & gas fixture factories in the country. A leading member of the Winthrop Church, and built in 1863 his final residence at Mon't. Square.
