Old houses corner Harvard and Main Streets. Many of the unoccupied Charlestown buildings upon which Bunker Hill Monument looks down date back to the end of the 18th century, and were for many years the homes of leading families in the history of Massachusetts. The stone house at left of this picture, for instance, contained a printing office in the upper rooms, where in 1827 the first successful Charlestown newspaper was issued under the heading "The Bunker Hill Aurora and Farmers' and Mechanics' Journal. The paper was circulated throughout Middlesex County, and a few years later was published simultaneously in Charlestown and in . . . [description ends].
