Description:: Barrell Mansion on Cobble Hill. Built by Joseph Barrell in 1792 on land that had been heavily fortified during the Revolution. Designed by Bulfinch, and surrounded by extensive private grounds known as Poplar Grove. Bought by John McLean and opened as the McLean Asylum in 1818.
