Charlotte Cushman house - Main Street, February 9, 1945. Timothy Sawyer in 1889 wrote in "Old Charlestown" (p. 204): - "In the building next to the corner of Main and Walker Streets, the lower story of which is now occupied by Hosmer Brother as a grocery-store, Charlotte Cushman, the celebrated actress and justly distinguished woman, lived in her girlhood for several years. She had previously lived in a house on what is now called Warren Avenue, her parents having removed here from Boston in 1828. While she was a pupil in the grammar school for girls in Charlestown the trustees of the schools made an arrangement with (over) ... [description ends].
