Secretary-class ship, 327' length. One of seven built; all named after U.S. Treasury Secretaries. Top speed 19.5 kts, crew of 146 peace-time, 223 war-time. Built at Charlestown Navy Yard, SC; commissioned 1936 and decommissioned 1985. In peace-time, it was an ocean station vessel used for weather patrols in the North Atlantic. In November 1987, it was sunk off Key Largo, FL for use as an artificial reef.
