Bell That Saved 33. Used for the first time in emergency operations, this bid diving bell newly-developed by the U.S. Navy, saved lives of 33 men in four dramatic trips to the Squalus which dived to the bottom off Portsmouth, N.H., partly flooded and unable to rise. This picture shows sailors of the rescue ship Falcon conditioning the bell for further work in salvaging the submersible May 25.
