William Lloyd Garrison writes that it is quiet at home with Helen, Frankie, and Willie absent. William L. Garrison has begun to sit for his portrait, which is being painted by Mr. Pope, a "handsome, gentlemanly man." Garrison comments: "But such is the slavish subserviency of the soldier to the summons of the government." Mr. Wilson says that he must have a cloudy day to revise William L. Garrison's portrait.
