William Lloyd Garrison writes at length about his Vermont trip. He arrived in Burlington at 7 p.m. He was invited to stay at the house of Lawrence Goodhue Bigelow, a retired lumber merchant. He traveled up Lake Champlain to Port Henry in the steamship America. He was impressed by the view of the mountains. He may visit Lake George. He is feeling very well, but is bothered by a hoarse voice. Garrison comments: "Wherever we travel, we see soldiers hurrying to the seat of war, or to their several encampments. Poor fellows, how many of them are doomed never again to see their beloved state, or 'home, sweet home!'"
