Letter from Samuel May, Leicester, Mass., to Richard Davis Webb, April 12, 1859
Description:
May says he was not seriously urging the formation of an Anti-Slavery League in England, that he was merely "expressing the wish that it were feasible." He describes Francis Bishop's attack on slavery in a Unitarian meeting in Baltimore and expresses regret for Bishop's gradual abandonment of the cause. May discusses George Thompson's difficulties and reports that a sum of money has been raised for him. May tells Webb that Maria Weston Chapman objects to a letter that he wrote that appeared in "The Anti-Slavery Advocate."
