Members of the crew of the heavy cruiser USS DAYTON, their shopping completed, wait for the liberty launch at the Fleet Landing in Izmir, Turkey. The Dayton, flagship of Vice Admiral B. H. Bieri, USN, Commander, Naval Forces, Mediterranean, was one of many ships of the Mediterranean Fleet to pay an informal visit to Izmir on the occasion of the Turkish International Fair during the month of September 1947.
