Text from item: For the warfare of the future. Possible developments in the air and under water. The war-plane of the future; or, the air-tank.-The sketch is an attempt to show what the war-plane of the near future may be like. Note the triplane and the entirely covered-in fuselage, also the protected "nacelle" mounted with quick-firing guns, in addition to a gun on the top of the "control station," for the purpose of engaging craft at a higher altitude. Great lifting capacity (for bomb-carrying) and terrific speed will be the main features. The submarine of the future.-What future developments will take place in the submarine branch of naval warfare is a matter of conjecture. We may possibly yet see craft like that shown in the sketch-enormous submarine cruisers, mounting huge howitzers, the reason being that a very long-range weapon would be useless in a submarine, the craft lying so low in the water that it is impossible to obtain the necessary height required by the gun-fire control.
