The Cranberry King, Abel D. Makepeace (1832-1916) and his wife, Josephine Crocker Makepeace, moved to Stephen Hamblin's house on River Road in 1880 before moving permanently to West Barnstable. The house looks out on the Baker Bog, named for Makepeace's financier, George T. Baker.
