Description:
In the margin of a printed circular, Gerrit Smith writes to Amos A. Phelps that he is enclosing $5 for Elisur Wright, whose house was recently burned. He makes a reference to the printed circular on which he writes his letter. The circular, dated “Peterboro, April 20. 1844,” and entitled, “To the Proslavery Voters of the Country of Madison,” argues in favor of voting for abolition and announces a series of public meetings.
