Letter from John Phelps Cowles, Oberlin, to Amos Augustus Phelps, Dec. 5, 1839
Description:
John P. Cowles writes to Amos A. Phelps that he did not demand a trial of the trustees at Oberlin College because he submitted his resignation before reading the problematic reason he was given for being asked to resign. Cowles then discusses Asa Mahan's arrangement in Boston, and asks Phelps to let him know what Mahan says about his (Cowles's) character. He then criticizes Keep and Dawes's efforts to raise funds for Oberlin College in England.
