Title from item.
New England Historical Genealogical Society voted in 1901 to publish vital records of the towns in Massachusetts. Most Vital Records to 1850 series were compiled and published in the early 20th century for many municipalities in Massachusetts. These volumes include birth, marriage, and death information and are transcribed from the town and church records, cemeteries, and private sources. The volumes are typically arranged by birth, marriage, and death, and alphabetically by family surname within each section. Explanations are offered in the beginning of the book on how geographical boundaries change, thus giving the appearance of a person moving from town to town, when it was the town that moved, and the person stayed on the same physical location. Also, the original sources are cited, thus making follow-up research at the numerous cemeteries easier. Abbreviations are clarified in the front of the volume. Marriage records include both the bride and groom's surname in the list. If a surname cannot be found in the printed version, check the handwritten book pages. Remember surnames are not necessarily spelled the exact same way year to year, town clerk to town clerk or generation to generation. Try various spelling forms when searching any surname. Transcribers may have a difficult time interpreting various forms of scrip, so check to see if an "n" is transcribed as "rr", "u", "m" or an “e”, “o” and an “a” could not be differentiated.
The vital records can be found in the printed versions entitled Vital records of Sudbury, Massachusetts, to the year 1850 and Vital records of Wayland, Massachusetts, to the year 1850. Both volumes can be located on Internet Archives for keyword searching: https://archive.org/details/vitalrecordsofsu00sudbur https://archive.org/stream/cu31924028839657#page/n5/mode/2up
