Dust Storms Again Plague The Southwest. Ludlam, Okla. -- Drifting dust driven by winds that reached up to 55 miles an hour forced this grain elevator switch to be vacated as dust storms again the southwest late in January. Agriculture authorities said that scenes such as this were only a forerunner of what was to come unless rain or snow packed downed the pulverized top soil of the plains states.
