Nassau, The Bahamas: Hurricane Betsy relentlessly pounded this Bahaman capital with 140 mile an hour winds 9/7 and islanders braced for the worst storm since 1929 when scores were killed. The second hurricane of the season drifted at an agonizing five miles an hour across the islands toward the southwest aimed at Fidel Castro’s Cuba 200 miles away. But the threat of danger to Florida remained. At 6 a.m. EDT Betsy was 185 miles slightly south of due east from Miami at latitude 25.3 north, longitude 77.2 west.
