Barnstable Patriot caption reads: Restoration, of the oldest Congregational Church in America, the West Parish Meetinghouse, built in 1717, has begun at West Barnstable. First of the exterior work was the lifting of the steeple, intact, and the temporary removal of the ancient Paul Revere bell. The cock weather vane and the bell were a part of the original structure, but the steeple was added a hundred years ago. In the picture .... workmen are shown guiding the steeple to the ground after it had been cut free of the belfry. The $100,000 restoration project, sponsored by the West Pariah Meetinghouse Memorial Foundation, is being accomplished through individual subscriptions and group donations. (Photo by Percy F.
