Text from item: "Kindness of Sybil S. Ramsey. L.F. Robbins." Apparently an "Antiques and Horribles" procession. "satirical parades of 'fantastics,' 'odds and ends,' or 'antiques and horribles' that also marched in many New England towns very early on the morning on the Fourth of July. They used costumes, masks, blackface, and disguise to illustrate gender and class reversal. Their satire and broad parody were aimed at authority, women, and foreigners." --Jane C. Nylander, "Community and Culture in New England Parades, 1840-1940," Magazine Antiques, Summer 2010, 124-33.
