World's Largest Graving Dock, Into Which the Queen Mary Will Ride for Tuning Up Prior to Her Sea Trials. The dock resembles a section of the Panama Canal locks. It is operated somewhat similarly, the dock being filled and partly emptied by the huge water gate. The dock can be made dry in four hours. The Queen Mary, for which this dock was built, will rest in a cradle in the center and will require but little propping to hold her straight. The dock holds 56,000,000 gallons of water. This is equivalent to 260,000 tons.
