Sibyl Sanderson (1865-1903) was an American soprano. Her father, Silas, was a politician and, at one time, the Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court. She moved with her sisters and mother to Paris after her father passed away. She appeared at many different venues there and was the favorite soprano of Jules Massenet.
On item: Sybil Sanderson (1865-1903), b. California. Studied at Paris Conserv. with Massenet, who wrote leading part in "Exclarmonde" for her. St. Saëns wrote "Phyrné" for her (1893). Massenet wrote "Thaïs" for her (Paris Opéra, 1894). Met deb. as Manon, 1895.
