Boston-born artist Jeff connected with Ms. Perkins’s Boston roots. During that particular era, it was common to find large chairs in the foyers of most houses where visitors could hang up their coat, leave gloves and scarves, and check their appearance in a mirror before leaving the house again. Jeff remembers visiting his grandparents, and seeing this type of chair first thing upon entering in the front door. He added the seal of the U.S. Department of Labor on the back to personalize the chair to Francis Perkins.
