Cars try to make their way along Main street here (7/29) as mud and flood waters remain in the wake of torrential rains which dumped some 6 inches of rain in a 12 hour period. Springfield was declared a "State Disaster Area' by Governor Deane Davis. National Guardsmen were brought in to aid police in helping residents that were evacuated due to flood dangers. Many roads were washed out also.
