An autograph manuscript diary kept by Thomas Newell, of Boston, between January 1, 1773 and December 22, 1774. Entries for each day document the weather, often with additional details of events from Newell's daily life, or important occurrences in Boston and the colonies. Newell's entry for December 17, 1773, describes the destruction of the East India Company's tea in Boston Harbor by the Sons of Liberty. Accompanied by a separate booklet of materials taken from the previous binding (fragment of the original cover, notes from former owners, clippings, bookplate, and a letter from former owner M.F. Whittemore to subsequent owner Abram E. Cutter). These materials gathered together and sewn into conservation wrappers.
