Description:
This series depicts the influx of tourists from abroad and the French provinces who came to Paris to visit the Exposition of 1844. It shows how the merchants of Paris very often took advantage of the helplessness and inexperience of these travelers on their first trip to the capital. Paul Barroilhet and Julie Aimée Josèphe Dorus-Gras van Steenkiste were both opera singers in Paris.
