Robert Morss Lovett Letters
Description:
This letter written by a former Bostonian to Robert Morss Lovett shows the impact the Sacco-Vanzetti case had on the United States. This concerned citizen calls into question the motives behind the trial as well as the flaws of the American justice system. The letter notes that high powers or certain authorities have certain friendships that obscure justice. Robert Morss Lovett, a native Bostonian, was an American writer, academic and political activist. During the Sacco-Vanzetti trial, he supported them through various publications and organizations. Lovett approached the AFPS Board to provide funds to the defense of Sacco and Vanzetti. Along with Glenn Frank and David Starr Jordan, Lovett formed an emergency organization to put pressure on the Federal government. At the time of the trial, Lovett was known at the time for being an extreme leftist, and was already being watched by the government for potential ties to communism.
