Plate 358 of Allgemeine Naturgeschichte der Fische portrays a Spotted snakehead. With multiple views for scientific accuracy, Ophicephalus Punctatus was created c. 1785-95 by J.F. Hennig. Hennig's intricate stippling and crosshatching endows the piece with believable texture. A translucent paint layer captures the values and hues of the fish. Varying line quality on the top of the fish's head creates complex, realistic scales. To cement the informative goal of the piece, Hennig includes a cross-section of the specimen and an additional detail figure.
