Holocentrus Striatus; Holocentrus Argentinus boasts incredible accuracy. Created by artist J.F. Hennig and engraver Ludewig Schmidt as plate 235 for Allgemeine Naturgeschichte der Fische, the eighteenth-century print depicts two fish, entitled the 'Streaked Holocenter' and 'Silver Holocenter' respectively. Currently known as varieties of angelfish, the specimen appear in profile against a stark background for scientific accuracy. Directional hatch lines and faint stipple marks suggest tangible texture, enhanced by watercolor paint. Both color and line combine to simulate accurate eyes. The realism within Holocentrus Striatus; Holocentrus Argentinus suggests that the masterful fish were studied from life.
